May is skin cancer awareness month. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, there are over 5 million diagnosed cases of skin cancer in the United States each year. This makes skin cancer one of the most commonly diagnosed forms of cancer, fortunately it is also one of the most preventable and treatable. About 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers and 85% of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. By raising awareness of the dangers of unprotected exposure and encouraging sun-safe habits, we can change behaviors and save lives. Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, in association with the AAD’s SPOTMe campaign, will be running free full body mole checks on Monday, May 7th, Thursday, May 17th and Monday May 21st. In addition to running these free mole check clinics, our staff will be participating in Miles for Melanoma on Saturday, June 2nd at Diversey Harbor.
