Thigh Lift
What is a Thigh Lift?
A Thigh Lift is a surgical procedure to reshape and rebalance the the thighs by removing excess loose hanging skin and sometimes excess fat. Oftentimes, despite our best diet and fitness efforts, the inner thigh can be a significant area of concern for many patients. Loose excess skin can interfere with wearing particular types of clothing and limit certain activities. Excess hanging skin is also commonly seen after massive weight loss. Niki Christopoulos, MD, FACS will listen to your goals and explain the thigh lift procedure in more detail with you during your consultation.
Am I a good candidate for a Thigh Lift Surgery?
Ideal Candidates for a Thigh Lift are patients who wish to:
- Remove excess loose hanging skin from the upper and inner thigh
- Improve the overall shape and contour of the upper leg
- Reduce the overall size of the thighs
Dr. Niki Christopoulos’ Approach to a Thigh Lift Procedure
The incisions will vary based on each individual’s anatomy and the degree of correction required. This incision may be hidden along the inner groin crease for those with moderate skin laxity or may extend vertically down the inner aspect of the thigh in those with more severe skin excess. Through these incisions the excess skin is removed and the thigh is reshaped to provide a more proportionate and balanced contour. Dr. Christopoulos will guide you through a thorough evaluation to determine which incision location is the best location for you and your goals.
Dr. Christopoulos is a double-board certified plastic surgeon and performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. Anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist using either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for your comfort and safety during the procedure. The procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours, although complicated procedures may take longer.
Thigh Lift Recovery and Results
The length of recovery and healing process does vary from individual to individual. It is natural to expect some bruising, swelling and numbness along the inner thigh after your procedure. Your thighs may be wrapped in bandages after surgery and sometimes small drainage tubes are placed temporarily under the skin to drain excess fluid. Most patients are able to resume daily activities and return to work within 7-10 days. While you will immediately see an improvement in shape and contour, prolonged swelling after a thigh lift is, however, typical and it can take several weeks before you see all the swelling subside. Dr. Christopoulos will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity for several weeks after your surgery and will also guide you on the proper type of compression garments that may be necessary to minimize swelling and improve your results.
