Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping)
What is an Otoplasty?
Otoplasty or ear reshaping is a procedure performed to improve the shape, proportion or position of the ear to create a more balanced and symmetric look. Otoplasty can correct a defect in the ear’s structure present since birth, or treat misshapen ears caused by injury.Dr. Niki Christopoulos MD, FACS will use a variety of techniques to create a natural, more balanced shape and create ears that are proportionate to the face and will determine if you are an ideal candidate for an otoplasty procedure during your cosmetic consultation.
Am I a good candidate for Ear Surgery?
Ideal Candidates for an otoplasty are patients who have:
- Split, torn, or stretched earlobes torn due to earring use or gauging
- Prominent ears that stick out or are not close to the head
- Dissatisfaction with previous ear surgery
- Ears that are overly large or small
Dr. Niki Christopoulos’ Approach To A Otoplasty Procedure
Dr. Christopoulos is a double-board certified plastic surgeon and performs her ear surgeries in the comfort of the office as an outpatient procedure. Ear surgery generally lasts about 1 hour. She will use local and/or oral anesthesia to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.
For prominent ears, Dr. Christopoulos will use small incisions placed behind the ear that are hidden in a natural skin crease. Through these incisions the cartilage is contoured and molded to the desired shape and size. For large or torn earlobes, small incisions are made in the ear lobe to correct the abnormality.
Otoplasty Recovery and Results
Ear Surgery offers almost immediate results. While recovery time varies for each patient and depending on the type of procedure performed, it is natural to expect some mild swelling and tenderness. The sutures are removed at 10-14 days after the procedure.
Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Christopoulos to discuss further any questions you may have and to determine if ear surgery is the correct procedure for you.
